Nutley Update on COVID-19

The Township of Nutley is providing an update to the community on several important matters, including:

  • Additional known COVID-19 cases
  • Emotional support information
  • Executive Order allowing tenants to use security deposit for rent payment
  • Proclamation Issued by the Board of Commissioners on April 21,2020

In addition, we remind residents to stay at home and to observe social distancing if you must go outside.

New Known Cases
The Township of Nutley announced an additional 7 new known cases of COVID-19, bringing the Township total known cases to 373 and 28 deaths.

The Board of Commissioners thoughts and prayers go out to all of the deceased and their families. Flags in Nutley and across the state have been lowered to half-staff in honor of all we have lost. No one will be forgotten.

The Nutley Health Department is working diligently to track any interactions the individuals who tested positive have had with residents, and they will ensure that anyone at risk of exposure is provided with all of the information necessary, including being tested themselves if appropriate.

Emotional Support Information
If you need emotional support or are feeling anxiety or worry due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you can call the NJ Mental Health Cares number at 1-866-202-HELP (4357). It is staffed with a live mental health specialist 7 days a week, 8 am-8 pm.

Locally, the Nutley Family Service Bureau is accepting referrals and can be reached by calling 973-667-1884.

Executive Order Allowing Tenants to Use Security Deposit for Rent Ppayment
Governor Murphy announced today that he will sign an executive order that will allow tenants to use their security deposits to make rent payments. Additional information will be shared as soon as the executive order becomes available.

Department of Public Works
The following DPW event has been cancelled due to the pandemic:

  • Electronics Recycling Day - April 25th

Parking meter enforcement is suspended until further notice. Please support our local businesses!

Health Department Message
Please make every attempt to check in on elderly and/or disabled neighbors. If you are aware of anyone that needs food and/or supplies, please contact the Department of Public Affairs at 973-284-4976.

Hereby Issue this Proclamation on April 21, 2020

WHEREAS, the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious virus caused by a newly discovered coronavirus; and

WHEREAS, the COVID-19 virus has infected over a million people worldwide, is responsible for countless unnecessary deaths and has become a world-wide pandemic; and

WHEREAS, there is no current treatment or vaccine for the COVID-19 virus; and

WHEREAS, the greatest weapon available in the fight against this invisible disease is the courageous network of first responders, scientists, researchers and medical professionals who are on the front line combating the Coronavirus pandemic; and

WHEREAS, the Township of Nutley is tremendously grateful to all those who have chosen the noble profession of healing, caring and protecting others; and

WHEREAS, all the first responders and medical professionals across New Jersey and specifically in Nutley treat their fellow neighbors with compassion, dignity and the respect they deserve; and

WHEREAS, we express our immense gratitude to all those caring for and treating patients across our nation and whose commitment to serving others has never been clearer.  Their contributions to society is immeasurable; and

WHEREAS, we thank all the scientist and researchers relentlessly working day and night to develop a vaccine for this deadly virus; and

WHEREAS, we are grateful to all our public employees who have dedicated themselves to ensure we continue to provide essential services to all Nutley residents;  

WHEREAS, we are also grateful to all truck drivers, social workers, grocery store workers, and all others that are working to assure that the nation is receiving the vital supplies and services needed to get through this pandemic; and

WHEREAS, we extend our thanks to all our educators who continue to find ways to educate our children and provide them with the skills and knowledge needed to help future generations; and

WHEREAS, all these brave men and woman are the most fearless, talented and gifted in the world, who’s incredible spirt and resolve is helping to save lives each day and contributing to the wellbeing of our citizens; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and the Board of Commissioners of the Township of Nutley, County of Essex, State of New Jersey that we extend our utmost appreciation, gratitude and most important, our sincere thanks to all those individuals and professions courageously working to save lives during this pandemic; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Township of Nutley pray for the continued strength and health of all those affected by this virus and in need of healing.

BE IT ALSO RESOLVED, that the Township of Nutley extend its thoughts and prayers to all those we have lost during this pandemic and their families. No one will be forgotten.
