Police Director Alphonse Petracco and Chief Thomas Strumolo are informing our Township residents of Diversion Burglars.

Today 2/17/2017 at approx. 11:00 this morning a Mountainview Ave Resident reported that two men came to her home claiming that they needed to enter due to a water related problem. Once allowed inside one led her to basement and caused her to be distracted by running water, while accomplice entered the home and stole valuables from the master bedroom.

  • Suspect 2-older man in his fifties with gray beard and heavyset.
  • Vehicle- is believed to be a newer model silver or grey 4 door Silverado Pickup truck.

Director Petracco said that Clifton, Bloomfield and Caldwell all had incidents similar to ours and believe these are the same people responsible for those thefts.

Chief Strumolo said that we had a similar diversion Burglary on Union Ave in January, and another on Feb 2, on Bloomfield Ave. He said they are often creative with their need to enter, and add a sense of urgency. He said that our detectives are investigating with Bloomfield Police.
