Park Closure and Down Tree Notification
From the Department of Parks & Public Property, Commissioner Mauro G. Tucci

Due to the severe storm occurring late afternoon on 7/14/16 Commissioner Mauro G. Tucci has announced the following Park/Recreational areas have been temporarily closed:

  • Nichols Park/Playground

  • DeMuro Playground

The facilities at Nichols Park located on the corner of Bloomfield Avenue and Funston Place are expected to re-open Monday, July 18th.  DeMuro Playground will be closed until further notice due to a tree down across the playground area.  The walking track is open at this time

Although various parks throughout the township remain open, Parks and Recreation Department crews are still working to clear debris/branches.  Commissioner Tucci urges residents to use caution while enjoying the park system during the clean-up.

A section of Columbia Avenue remains closed due to a down tree.  Upon clearance from Public Service we will begin the removal in that area.  The Shade Tree Department is continuing to conduct damage assessment for large tree limbs or damage to any public property. “Over 30 locations have currently been addressed and we plan on continuing throughout the weekend to clear any emergency situations” stated Commissioner Tucci.

Residents experiencing debris from town trees only (located between the sidewalk and the curb) may call the Department of Parks and Recreation at 973-284-4966, between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to schedule a pick up.
