Commissioner Mauro G. Tucci Announces Fall 2026 Youth Programs

Commissioner Mauro G. Tucci and the Department of Parks and Recreation are thrilled to offer a wide variety of enriching programs this Fall for your children. These activities are designed to inspire creativity, encourage physical activity, and foster a love for learning. With programs ranging from dance and tumbling to storytelling and creative writing, there is truly something for everyone!

Ancient Stories and Mythology (Grades 5-9)

Delve into the fascinating world of mythology! Students will explore Greek myths and fables, discovering the timeless lessons they offer. The program encourages participants to understand how myths have influenced cultures throughout history and gives them the opportunity to create their own mythical stories, blending creativity with historical insights.

Dates: Thursdays, 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Duration: 6 weeks – September 17 – October 22
Location: Parks & Rec - Room 201, 44 Park Ave.
Fee: $60 per participant

     


Aspiring Authors (Grades 1-6)

Unleash your child’s imagination in this fun-filled writing program! Aspiring Authors combines reading and writing to inspire young writers to create captivating stories. Participants will learn the basics of story structure, idea organization, and audience engagement in a supportive and exciting environment.

Dates: Thursdays
5:00 PM - 6:00 PM (Grades 1-3)
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM (Grades 4-6)
Duration: 6 weeks - September 17 – October 22
Location: Parks & Rec - Room 201, 44 Park Ave.\
Fee: $60 per participant

     

 

Contemporary Dance (Ages 6-8)

Let your child express themselves through the freedom of contemporary dance! This engaging class combines elements of modern jazz and other styles, helping dancers build confidence and explore their creativity. Contemporary dance allows each participant to move at their own pace, with no right or wrong way to express themselves.

Dates: Wednesdays, 5:00 PM - 5:45 PM
Duration: 6 weeks September 16 – October 21
Location: Recreation Annex Building, 65 Bloomfield Ave.\
Fee: $75 per participant

     


Edgar Allen Poe (Grade 5-9)

Unleash your child’s imagination in this fun-filled writing program! Aspiring Authors combines reading and writing to inspire young writers to create captivating stories. Happily Ever Crafters (Toddlers)

This program is perfect for parents who want to spend quality, creative time with their toddlers. Each session includes storytime, singing, and crafting activities inspired by the day’s story. This engaging class supports early literacy, creativity, and social development while fostering unforgettable memories for families.

Dates: Thursdays, 11:30 AM - 12:55 PM
Duration: 6 weeks – September 17 – October 22
Location: Recreation Annex Building, 65 Bloomfield Ave.
Fee: $40 per participant

     

 

KinderDANCE (Ages 3-6)

Introduce your child to the joy of movement with this dynamic pre-K program! KinderDANCE combines music, movement, fitness, and educational concepts to enhance creativity and motor skills. This class is an excellent way for children to explore self-expression while having fun.

Dates: Wednesdays, 4:00 PM - 4:45 PM
Duration: 6 weeks – September 16 – October 21
Location: Recreation Annex Building, 65 Bloomfield Ave.
Fee: $75 per participant

Limited spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

     


Tumbling (Grades K-4)

Introduce your child to the exciting world of gymnastics! This beginner-friendly program teaches basic tumbling, acrobatics, and coordination skills in a safe and fun environment. Tumbling not only builds strength and flexibility but also fosters discipline and confidence.

Dates: Fridays
Session Times:
  Kindergarten: 6:00 PM
  Grades 1-2: 7:00 PM
  Grades 3-4: 7:45 PM
Duration: 6 weeks – September 18 – October 23
Location: Recreation Annex Building, 65 Bloomfield Ave.
Fee: $60 per participant
