From the Township of Nutley Office of Emergency Management

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Essex County until 6:45 p.m. and a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 8:00 p.m.

Heavy rainfall, localized flash flooding, damaging wind gusts and hail are possible. Residents should remain indoors and move to an interior room on the lowest floor during severe storms.

Please use caution:

• Do not drive through flooded roadways. Turn around, don’t drown.

• Avoid low-lying areas, underpasses and streets with poor drainage.

• Stay away from downed trees, branches and utility wires. Treat all downed wires as live and dangerous.

• Secure outdoor furniture and other loose objects, when it is safe to do so.

• Charge mobile devices and be prepared for possible power outages.
