Commissioner Dr. Joseph P. Scarpelli, would like to inform residents of an upcoming project that may impact areas within the Township. This notice is being provided to ensure residents are aware of the work and to help maintain safety throughout the community. While some temporary inconvenience is anticipated, the Township is committed to completing the work as quickly and efficiently as possible while minimizing disruptions. ROAD CLOSURE NOTIFICATION
Passaic Avenue
Location: From Rutgers Place to Kingsland Street


On Thursday, July 2, 2026, weather permitting, the Township’s contractor, AJM Contractors, Inc., will be performing work on Passaic Avenue between Lakeside Drive and Rutgers Place from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Residents living within the direct work zone who anticipate needing access to their vehicles during the day are advised to move their vehicles out of their driveways before 6:00 AM and park outside the active work area. All other residents along Passaic Avenue from Lakeside Drive to Kingsland Street, including all side streets, will have access to their driveways. However, Passaic Avenue will be closed to traffic for the safety of residents, construction personnel and to minimize traffic disruptions. All other motorists are advised to plan alternate routes and expect delays.


TRAFFIC IMPACTS:

  • Street/Roadway will be closed during construction hours;

  • Due to nature of the work there may be delays as equipment is moved;

  • If posted, please follow all specified detour routes;

  • Traffic delays are expected – please plan alternate routes.

RESIDENT IMPACTS:

  • Street closures during construction hours for vehicles;

  • Due to nature of the work there may be delays as equipment is moved;

  • Entry to Driveways will be limited;

  • Contact the Nutley Police Department regarding overnight parking restrictions.

PEDESTRIAN IMPACTS

  • Pedestrian walkway access may be limited during construction period;

  • We ask that when accessing these areas you use extreme caution.
