Commissioner Tucci Welcomes Seniors to Annual May Day Luncheon

Commissioner Mauro G. Tucci and the Department of Parks and Recreation welcomed over 200 Nutley senior citizens to the Township's annual May Day luncheon this past Sunday. The Nutley tradition, which took place at the Parks and Rec gymnasium, treated the Township’s beloved seniors to a buffet luncheon and live entertainment from Nutley’s own John Cafone.

In Nutley, May Day is a day to celebrate and honor the many contributions Nutley’s senior community adds to the Township. “We respect May Day, and the people, the laborers of this world,” Commissioner Tucci said in his welcoming remarks. “That's what we do.That's what we did to build this town, build this county, the state, and this country. But that's not what our May Day is. Our May Day is a celebration of each and every one of you, our seniors. In some places, they don't revere their seniors enough. They don't honor us the way they should. But in Nutley, as long as I'm here, you will never be disrespected.

“We'll do everything in our power to make sure we help you in every single way we can. Whether it's our excellent programs, or rides to the doctors, to Costco, to ShopRite, we're here for you. We have our high school volunteers here to serve you today because they also appreciate how important you all are. They respect you, because that's what we demand here in Nutley. So let's have a great day. Enjoy the music, have a fantastic lunch and thank you for everything that you've done for our great town. God bless every one of you.”
