The Township of Nutley Board of Commissioners has officially recognized the week of May 17–23, 2026, as National Public Works Week. This designation calls upon all citizens to recognize the substantial contributions of public works professionals, including engineers, managers, and employees, who are essential to the community's health, safety, and quality of life.
This year marks the 66th Annual National Public Works Week, sponsored by the American Public Works Association. The 2026 theme, "Rooted in Service, Powered by Community," acknowledges that public works are the foundation of thriving communities. These professionals focus on critical infrastructure, facilities, and services such as transportation, water supply, water treatment, solid waste systems, and public buildings.
"The dedicated efforts of our public works professionals, whether maintaining visible infrastructure like roads and bridges or unseen systems like water and sewer, are fundamentally vital to our sustainable and resilient community," said Commissioner Scarpelli. "We encourage all residents to gain a deeper understanding of the importance of these programs and to recognize the men and women, especially our local Nutley DPW employees, who protect our public health and advance the quality of life for all."
