State of New Jersey Honors Meredith Blank as a Leader of Change

Township of Nutley Public Affairs and Health Administrator Meredith Blank was honored last month as a “Leader of Change” by New Jersey Assemblywoman Carmen Morales and Assemblyman Michael J. Venezia at the “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future” event held at the Brwnbox in Orange. The luncheon’s goal was to recognize women who are leading sustainability efforts across environmental, economic, educational, and social justice movements.

“I am truly honored and humbled to receive this award, and proud to stand alongside such an incredible group of honorees—each one dynamic, inspiring, and deserving of recognition,” Blank said.  “I want to thank Mayor Kelly for this nomination and for his trust in me to help carry out the meaningful programs and events we bring to the community, especially those celebrating Women’s History Month. I also want to recognize Assemblywoman Morales and Assemblyman Venezia for this honor, and the strong, fierce women of Nutley and beyond whose vision and dedication laid the foundation for all of us who follow.”

In the Legislator's commendation, Meredith was cited for her dedication and service, her lasting and positive impact on the Township of Nutley, and for exemplifying the highest ideals of civic responsibility, sustainability, and community empowerment.

Mayor John V. Kelly, III, representing the Township of Nutley leadership, was also in attendance at the event.

“When I looked at the criteria for the award, I immediately thought of Meredith Blank,” Mayor Kelly said. “Not only does she lead these efforts for the Township, but she has a personal passion for each and every aspect of the award. She is part of the driving force that makes Nutley a destination in life and I was proud to nominate her!”

The commendation also highlighted many of Meredith’s contributions to Nutley, including:

Local Community Initiatives and Civic Engagement: Meredith is a driving force in local community initiatives, managing public events and environmental programs, and demonstrating a strong commitment to civic engagement and community development. She also provides dedicated public service and support to her municipality's leadership.

Environmental Leadership and Sustainability: She manages the Nutley Community Garden and advances sustainability initiatives that promote environmentally responsible choices. Meredith’s work offers residents practical and accessible ways to contribute to a healthier and more sustainable community and planet.

Support for Local Agriculture: She fosters meaningful connections between residents and local farmers, creating opportunities for community members to engage directly with those who grow their food and strengthening appreciation for local agriculture.

Social Justice and Economic Opportunity: She is actively engaged in promoting social justice and economic opportunity through the Nutley Women's Networking Group. Specifically, during Women's History Month, Meredith supports the professional growth and visibility of local female entrepreneurs.

“When I joined the Department in 2008, then-Mayor Joanne Cocchiola created the Women’s Initiative of Nutley, led by remarkable women who worked tirelessly to celebrate women’s accomplishments in every area of life.,” added Blank. “Their legacy continues to guide and inspire us today, and I’m especially grateful to the talented and dedicated staff at the Nutley Department of Public Affairs and Health, whose hard work makes everything we do possible.”

Each year, the National Women’s History Alliance (NWHA) sets a theme for Women’s History month. According to the NWHA, this year’s theme “honors the women who have and are reimagining and rebuilding systems to ensure long-term sustainability- environmental, economic, educational, and societal. It recognizes the powerful leadership of women in creating a future that is rooted in equity, justice, and opportunity for all. From environmental advocacy to financial reform, from community organizing to policy innovation, women are at the forefront of driving holistic change. Their leadership is not only addressing today’s most urgent challenges – it is laying the foundation for a more resilient and inclusive tomorrow.”
