Celebrate Black History Month

The Nutley Cultural Inclusion and Diversity Council is excited to share the following events celebrating Black History Month throughout the month of February, through education, community partnerships, and a little fun along the way.

Kurly Kürtősh Café has created a special Black History Month dessert inspired by the Juneteenth colors of red, white, and blue. Beyond being delicious, the dessert serves as a conversation starter, educating the community on the history and meaning behind these colors and their roots in Black history.

The Oakley is also joining the celebration by featuring a signature Black History Month adult beverage for the entire month of February: “Grandma’s Milk,”. This nationally recognized brand honors Nathan “Nearest” Green, the first known African-American Master Distiller, and his lasting influence on American whiskey making.

We are honored to welcome our friend and community leader from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Lady Tricia Scipio. She will be speaking to the Nutley High School students on Thursday, February 26, addressing this year’s Black History Month theme, “A Century of Black History Commemorations.”

Black History Month is an annual observance that celebrates African-American life, history, and culture. It provides an opportunity to educate, reflect, preserve important stories, and promote a deeper understanding of Black contributions locally and globally.

Thank you for your continued support as we celebrate, educate, and build community together.
