It is my honor and privilege on behalf of the Nutley Board of Commissioners (BOC) to present the 2025 Nutley State of the Township.
As the BOC started our terms last year, I said that Nutley is a destination in life, and it continues to be a destination in all facets of life. Significant progress has been made on the Township's redevelopment projects, our residents continue to raise the bar, business is booming, home values are at record numbers (bit.ly/hottestmarketsnutley) and smart changes are enhancing our everyday lives.
Ciccolini Property Update: The BOC has entered into a contract with a redeveloper to purchase the site, pending due diligence by the redeveloper. As it stands, the deal promises significant benefits to the town. For instance, public parking will increase from about 75 spaces to approximately 125 spaces on the property, the town will gain a minimum 5,000 square feet of parkland and will be paid $4.5 million dollars for the property. This project will provide much-needed revitalization to the Northern side of Franklin Ave.
Hoffman-La Roche/ON3 Update: The BOC has made significant progress negotiating with the redeveloper at the On3 site. The BOC is optimistic about reaching a resolution that would better serve the town, addressing many of the community’s concerns.
Diamond Springs Update: After multiple planning board meetings and reviews, the Nutley Planning Board granted preliminary and final site plan approval for the project at the old Diamond Springs Pool Club. This project will revitalize the area, provide 82 age-restricted (55 and older) luxury apartments and provide increased tax revenue for the Township. This will provide much-needed housing for our aging population, without affecting our schools.
One Nutley: The Board of Commissioners is actively working with and supporting the Board of Education’s's efforts to improve its financial stability. Renovation of the building at 777 Bloomfield Ave. is on schedule, allowing for the Board of Education office relocation and providing space for 150 pre-K students is progressing rapidly, on target for a September opening.
Student Accomplishments: Continuing our tradition of academic excellence, we salute our Township students’ achievements and educational excellence:

Township Recognition: Nutley continues to rank among the top communities to live in the country:
Local Business Support: The BOC has been working tirelessly to promote our local businesses and to create opportunities for the creation of new businesses:
Township Services: The BOC is always proactive, continuously seeking ways to enhance the services we offer while also being mindful of our budget. One example is the Township’s transition to a Uniform Cart model for garbage collection services. This change not only is more aesthetically pleasing but also helps us avoid a potential cost increase for residential garbage services. Additionally, we've seen a reduction in usage costs when comparing monthly figures to those of last year. For example, in January 2025, we hauled away 70 fewer tons of waste compared to January 2024. Furthermore, rodent complaints across the Township have decreased by an impressive 75%!
As Nutley continues to strengthen its foothold as a “Destination in Life,” if there is anything the BOC can do to further enhance your quality of life do not hesitate to let us know. The BOC is composed of dedicated public servants with whom I am not only proud to serve with, I am proud to work with.
