Commissioner Tucci Announces Pickleball Court Expansion, Tennis Court Renovation

Nutley Parks and Recreation Commissioner Mauro G. Tucci recently announced that the Township would be continuing the upgrading of the Owens Field complex by adding six pickleball courts and reconstructing two tennis courts on the complex’ lower base.

The Township’s popular tennis area will now be complemented by the country’s fastest- growing sport. Over the past four years, pickleball has exploded in popularity, growing by over 50% from 2022 to 2023, and an incredible 223.5% from 2020 to the present.

“We’ve reconstructed two of the tennis courts where the tennis courts were,” the Commissioner said.  “We’re also installing six brand new pickleball courts to complement the ones we already have at DeMuro Park. The courts at DeMuro are always packed, so the idea of adding new courts at Owens was a no-brainer. Everyone is excited about it.”

Commissioner Tucci is expecting to have the courts ready by later this month.
