Commissioner Scarpelli and the DPW Announce
2020 Contactless Fall Leaf Bag Distribution October 3rd

The changing color of leaves and the chill in the air remind us that leaf season is approaching. The Public Works Department will have a special leaf bag distribution day on Saturday, October 3rd at the Public Works Garage from 8am to 1pm.

Residents will be required to stay in their car and open their trunk to receive the bags.  In addition, the DPW will NOT be collecting food for the Nutley Family Service Bureau’s Food Pantry, but urge all residents to help stock the pantry by delivering the food to the NFSB during normal business hours.

“In light of the COVID-19 pandemic we are making this year’s leaf bag distribution contactless.  I am also asking residents to help stock the NFSB’s Food Pantry. Canned goods, cereal, peanut butter, pasta, and rice are all needed and can be delivered directly to the NFSB at 165 Chestnut Street in the containers in the rear of the building ,” said Dr. Scarpelli.

In addition, if residents are unable to participate in the October 3rd distribution day, the department will once again provide 10 bio-degradable leaf bags at no-charge to residents at the Public Works Garage located on Cortland Street, weekdays starting Monday, October 5th between the hours of 8am and 3pm. Residents will not be allowed in the offices.  Once arriving at DPW, please call 973-284-4984 to have the leaf bags left outside the office front door.

Leaves and all other vegetation will be picked up on Wednesdays by Basso Sanitation through December 15th.  Vegetation must be placed in brown bio-degradable bags or in a container.  Plastic bags will not be accepted.
