Richard Kingsland was born in the Kingsland Manor in 1818. He and his brother, Joseph Kingsland III, were partners in the paper business in Nutley. He married to Sarah Myers Pegg in 1846 and had four children: Sarah Ann, Martha A., Joseph Roger and Annie. The portrait was taken from the Nutley area by his son, Joseph Roger, and moved to West Virginia, and later to California and finally Colorado.
