Nutley Police Snow and Ice Advisory Notice - Monday, January 9, 2017

Nutley Police Director Alphonse Petracco and Chief Thomas Strumolo advise residents of the following:

Ice and snow needs to be removed from sidewalks in a timely manner and in no case later than 36 hours from when snow stops falling. Township Ordinance 610-1. It is also a violation to push snow from driveway or parking lot into any roadway or in front of someone else's property. Do not shovel or discharge snow into roadway, from a blower.

Motor Vehicle, windows shall NOT be obstructed by Ice/Snow/Frost or Fog and all snow and Ice shall be removed from vehicle, including snow on roof, hood, and open bed areas, prior to driving on state and municipal roadways. NJ 39-477 a violation ranges from 25.00-75.00 unless it is dislodged from the vehicle and causes damage or injury, then fines start at 200.00.

Although Nutley Police authorize special permission to park on roadway on occasion, we suspend this practice during snow emergencies, or in advance of such predictions. This practice enables snow plows to clear from curb to curb and permits emergency vehicles a lane of travel with constricted road widths.

Lastly, in the event of snowfall, icy rain, slick conditions or flooding the Public Safety Department urges Non Essential travelers to stay put. Emergency responders become inundated during weather emergencies, which may result in difficulties responding to your emergency should one arise.
