Department of Public Works’ Commissioner Joseph Scarpelli announced that there will be free two hour metered parking from December 14th through December 25th to encourage resident to shop locally.
“We want to promote our business districts and support our local merchants anyway we can,” said Commissioner Scarpelli. “We have wonderful shops and restaurants in our downtown, Olde Towne Centre, and throughout our other business districts. The convenience of our on-street parking and municipal lots coupled with the opportunity to leisurely walk while both shopping and dining offers a pleasant alternative to the crowded malls.”
The suspension of metered parking during the holiday season is a Nutley tradition. The free two hour limit will allow people ample time to shop, but also allow the turnover of vehicles for new shoppers and prevent others from parking all day.
“I am urging our residents to Shop Nutley First. Pumping up our local economy, especially in these trying times helps everyone. All year long our Nutley business community contributes to our PTO’s, non–profits, and other fundraising events. We should consider our friendly neighborhood stores and restaurants while we are making our holiday gift lists,” concluded Scarpelli.
