Nutley, NJ – In addition to the recognition of Heart Health Month, and National Wear Red Day for Women, Mayor Joanne Cocchiola has announced the “Stories From The Heart” campaign. Nutley women are invited and encouraged to share their heart stories and the choices they have made to live a heart-healthy lifestyle, empowering others by example.
“I know many women in our community who have had heart health issues,” commented Mayor Cocchiola. “Thankfully early detection and proper medical care got them through their health crisis, and now many have made positive changes to their every-day-lives. These inspirational stories need to be shared,” the Mayor added.
This inspirational campaign, ‘Stories From the Heart’, will take place throughout the month of February. Stories can be written in letter or short story format, and will be judged solely on content by our panel of public health nurses and local area medical professionals. The story voted “Most Inspirational” will be awarded a gift certificate good for an Aveda Facial and Caribbean Hand Treatment from Pure Energy Salon of Nutley.
Mayor Cocchiola and the staff of the Nutley Health Department are urging all to educate themselves about heart disease, the No. 1 killer of New Jersey and American females. Risk factors are:
·High blood pressure
·High blood cholesterol
·Overweight/obesity
·Physical inactivity
·Diabetes
·Family history of early coronary heart disease
·Age(for women, 55 and older)
