Nutley, NJ – The entertainment lineup for the Township of Nutley’s Annual Fourth of July Celebration was announced today by Mayor Joanne Cocchiola and the Board of Commissioners. For the first time, live local bands will perform, adding flair to the patriotic atmosphere of the evening.
“Nutley has so many gifted performers and I am thrilled to be able to showcase some of our local talent on such a special night,” mentioned Mayor Cocchiola. “Since the bands are generously donating their talents, it is also a great way for us to provide the community with something they can enjoy at no cost,” the Mayor added.
The three bands scheduled to appear are the Father and Son Groove Collective, The Last Cab, and The Compadres. The music will begin at 6:30pm with the Father and Son Groove Collective kicking off the night. The Last Cab will go on at 7:15pm and The Compadres will perform at 7:45pm. The bands will play on Franklin Avenue in front of Walker Middle School.
The Father and Son Groove Collective is a 1950s and 1960s classic rock and roll band made up of two fathers and their sons. Its members are Anthony Salimbene (guitar/vocals), John Salimbene (guitar), Raymond Calluori (drums), and Zac Calluori (guitar and bass). The Last Cab, comprising of Cynthia Alessio (lead singer), Andrew Wong (rhythm guitar), Joe Corrao (lead guitar), Pete Boreyko (bass), and Evan Patoray (drums) is an alternative-rock band. The Compadres is an alternative power-pop band made up of Nutley High School Class of 2009 members Danny Fornasa (lead singer and guitar), Miles Mueller (drums), Anthony Codomo (keyboards), and Christian Francisco (bass).
“We formed our band freshman year and have been playing together all through high school. We’re very excited to have this opportunity to play as The Compadres during our final summer before we go off to college,” commented The Compadres lead singer Danny Fornasa.
Additionally, to enhance this year’s theme of good old-fashion fun, the Township will be introducing its first-ever pie eating contest on July 4th. Individuals will compete to see who can eat their pie the quickest. All residents are invited to participate. You can register on-site in front of the Walker Middle School, during the evening festivities. The contest will be limited to the first 20 registrants. The Pie Eating Contest will be held on Franklin Avenue at 7pm. The contest is being sponsored by Shop Rite who is generously donating 7-inch blueberry pies. Everyone is encouraged to attend and cheer on the participants as they race to devour their blueberry pie the fastest!
A dunk tank has also been added to the July 4th fun. All are invited to join in and dunk Mayor Joanne Cocchiola and other notable Nutleyites, all in good fun. The tank will be there for the dunking between 6pm – 8:30pm; 2 chances for $1. All proceeds will go towards helping to fund future civic celebrations for the Township.
Fourth of July festivities will begin at 6:00pm and end at 9pm with a spectacular fireworks display at dusk. Food vendors, games, face painting, juggling, balloon animals and other family fun will be available throughout the evening.
