Mayor Mauro G. Tucci announced the addition of Martial Arts to the lineup of Recreation Programs that are currently offered to Nutley residents.  This program is open to boys and girls in grades 1 through 6.  The Introduction to Martial Arts Program will focus on teaching the rudiments of Kung Fu, kick boxing and grappling.  Strategies for dealing with bullying and conflict avoidance will also be reviewed.  This class will benefit participants by teaching them basic techniques and philosophies from a variety of martial cultures. With this, they will get a great strength and cardiovascular workout while learning discipline, perseverance and practical self-defense.

Tom Walker and Anthony Buzantian of 5 Rings Martial Arts Studio will bring over 30 years of Martial Arts Training and Black Belts in many disciplines to the Nutley community.  This 6 week program will be offered beginning March 3, 2012.  Classes will be held Saturday mornings at the Recreation Department located at 44 Park Ave.  Pre-registration is required for this program. Limited space is available, applications will be accepted on a first come basis. “Recreational activities are a vital part of a child’s development, physical activity provides hours of fun, fitness, endless memories and valuable lessons in teamwork and leadership” stated Mayor Tucci.
