Nutley, NJ – Mayor Joanne Cocchiola and the Department of Public Affairs would like to announce that registration is now open for the Fall Community Juicing Program which is set to begin on October 3rd and run through October 11th.  This program is an extension of the Mayor’s Wellness Challenge and gives residents an opportunity to be exposed to healthy alternatives that they wouldn’t otherwise try.

The Mayor’s Wellness Challenge organizers were first introduced to the concept of community juicing during the 2010 Challenge by Mr. Joe Cross, the Australian businessman who documented his experience with juicing in the movie Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead.  The Mayor has since hosted movie screenings of the documentary, as well as juicing seminars and even samplings at past Farmers Markets.  “Mr. Cross is a big champion of healthy habits and his ‘Reboot’ juicing program is a great way to give you a jump start to changing some of your habits for the better,” mentioned Mayor Cocchiola.  “He has also generously provided us with juicers to loan out which makes this program possible to bring to our community,” she added.

The second community juicing program offered in the township, this program, for a fee of $65, will offer a Breville juicer on loan for a 7-day juicing program which will be monitored by Joe Cross’s team of experts from Reboot Media.  The fee will go entirely to the purchase of a pre-packaged crate of fruits and vegetables (supplied by the Nutley Park ShopRite) for the full length of the program.  Participants are required to attend both the kick-off meeting and wrap-up meeting which will be held on October 3rd and October 11th at 7pm respectively at the Department of Public Affairs.

Participants will have their weight and blood pressure checked at both the beginning and end of the program.  In addition to Reboot Media staffers attending the kick-off meeting, they will also offer on-line support throughout the program.  This program is open to all Nutley residents who would like to borrow a juicer for the week.  Please only one juicer per household.  Of course, Nutley residents with juicers are also welcome and non-Nutley residents can participate if they have access to their own juicer.  There is a limited supply of juicers and they will be loaned on a first come, first served basis.  Registration and fees are due by September 28, 2011.
