Nutley, NJ – In recognition of Heart Health Month this February, Mayor Joanne Cocchiola has announced the return of the popular program Heart Healthy Cooking & Discussion Panel to be held on Thursday, February 24th from 6:15pm to 7:45pm at the Township of Nutley Department of Parks and Recreation Senior Annex, 44 Park Avenue, Nutley. The event will be open to all Nutley residents as well as friends in neighboring communities. In collaboration with Clara Maass Medical Center, this program is designed to educate both men and women on how to prepare heart healthy meals, as well as raise awareness of general heart health risk factors. The program will include cholesterol, blood pressure and body fat screenings starting at 5:00pm, and will feature a panel discussion with medical experts in the heart health field.
“Our heart health programs have been quite popular with our community,” said Mayor Cocchiola. “Taking into consideration the hectic lives of our community members, it seemed like the importance of food choices and preparation was a significant heart health issue that should be discussed. Clara Maass has put together an exciting and informative program and I hope everyone takes the opportunity to come out to this important event,” the Mayor added.
The Heart Healthy Cooking Demo will include a chef from Clara Maass who will perform a heart healthy cooking demonstration, while a registered dietician will discuss the nutritional and dietary benefits of healthy eating. Additionally, Annette Cozzarelli-Franklin, M.D., Medical Director of the Women’s Health Center at Clara Maass Medical Center, who also maintains an internal medicine practice in Nutley, along with a panel of medical experts, will provide information and insight regarding the importance of cardiac health. A Q&A session will follow the discussion. Also available by appointment are free blood pressure, cholesterol and body fat screenings which will precede the 6:15 p.m. Cooking Demonstration and begin at 5:00 p.m. Register for an appointment by contacting Clara Maass directly at 1-888-724-7123, prompt #1.
