Township Plans July 4th Celebration

Nutley, NJ – Fourth of July festivities were announced today by Mayor Joanne Cocchiola. The Township is making plans for an exciting day for residents of all ages.

“The Fourth of July is always such a festive occasion for our Township,” commented Mayor Joanne Cocchiola. “For most residents, this is the highlight of the year. As usual, we promise to have a spectacular event,” the Mayor added.

Festivities will kick off in the morning, starting with our traditional children’s events at the Nutley Park Oval from 9am to 12noon. Events will include running races, football throw and potato sack races, to name a few. Awards will be given to the top finishers in the following age categories: 4 & under, 5 & 6 year olds, 7 – 9 year olds and 10 – 12 year olds. Free Italian ice will be available for children who participate.

The celebration continues from 6pm to 9pm as Franklin Avenue, from Chestnut to Church Streets, will be shut down and turned into a festival of patriotism. Children can enjoy free activities which will include inflatables, such as a moonwalk and obstacle course, face painting and balloon caricatures. Families will be entertained by our Uncle Sam stilt walker and Slipped Disc Entertainment of Nutley, who will be providing music and organized activities, like a water balloon toss, for the evening. Festival-type food will also be available for purchase.

A spectacular display of fireworks will supply a perfect ending to an exciting patriotic day. The fireworks are sponsored by Mayor Joanne Cocchiola and the Township Commissioners.

Remember to bring your lawn chairs and blankets and join us for this fun-filled affair.
