Township to Collect Worn American Flags for Proper Disposal
Nutley, NJ
– Mayor Joanne Cocchiola announced the Township’s plan to collect old, tattered
American Flags as a convenience to Township residents.
The Mayor’s Office will work closely with Jack Kane, President of the Veteran’s
Council, as well as the American Legion, to have the flags disposed of properly.
“A
Nutley
resident, who is a war veteran, approached me and asked if we could provide this
service,” commented Mayor Joanne Cocchiola.
“I thought it was a nice idea, not to mention the convenience offered to our residents.” “I know many residents who are holding
on to flags because they don’t know how to dispose of them properly,” added the Mayor. Residents are reminded that most local dry cleaners will clean any cloth American Flag free of charge, provided
it is good condition.
The collection box will be outside of the Department of Public Affairs building located at
149 Chestnut Street, Nutley
. Flags, both nylon and cloth,
can be placed in the box for proper disposal starting this Memorial Day weekend.
