Alcohol

  • Adapt – Alcohol & Drug Abuse Prevention Team. ADAPT is a coalition of people who care about reducing underage drinking and drug abuse in Essex County.  Members include youth parents, educators, police, substance abuse professionals, faith-based and government representatives, and other concerned citizens.
  • Talk. They Hear You. SAMHSA’s (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) underage drinking prevention campaign helps parents and caregivers start talking to their children early about the dangers of alcohol.
  • Alcoholics Anonymous® is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.  Weekly meetings are held locally.
  • Al-Anon/Alateen For over 55 years, Al-Anon (which includes Alateen for younger members) has been offering strength and hope for friends and families of problem drinkers.

Over the Counter (OTC) Medication

  • OTC Safety.org – Your resource for Over-the-Counter Medicine Safety.  Supported by CHPA members, the leading makers of OTC medicines, the CHPA Educational Foundation’s goal is improved public health through safe and effective OTC use. Established in 2004, the foundation has developed a series of innovative, user-friendly education programs to help build a better understanding of responsible medicine use among consumers of all ages.

Bullying

  • Eyes on Bullying Together with parents, ... Eyes on Bullying offers a variety of tools that can help you look at and understand bullying in a new way
  • NJ Coalition for Bullying Awareness & Prevention seeks to increase community awareness of bullying as a common serious problem of school-age children and to advocate for the implementation of effective bullying prevention approaches in the State of New Jersey.
  • StopBullying.gov provides information from various government agencies on how kids, teens, young adults, parents, educators and others in the community can prevent or stop bullying.

Drugs/Substance Abuse

  • Get Smart About Drugs – A new and improved drug education website for parents, educator and caregivers that was launched by the Drug Enforcement Administration.  Originally launched in 2008, the site has updated drug information, resources and is redesigned for easier navigation.
  • The Partnership at Drugfree.org. serves as a drug prevention information center, and a supportive community for parents to interact and learn from each other to raise drug-free kids.
  • Parent Check NJ This site focuses to positively impact 18 to 25 year olds and their parents to develop and implement a statewide effective prevention program.  Includes a college alcohol and drug policy directory.
  • Narcotics Anonymous is a nonprofit Fellowship or society of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem. We are recovering addicts who meet regularly to help each other stay clean. Weekly meetings are held locally.
  • abovetheinfluence This campaign reflects what teens across the country say is going on in their lives. The goal is to help kids stay above the influence. The more aware they are of the influences around them, the better prepared they will be to stand up to the pressures.
  • L.E.A.D is committed to protecting our youth and communities from the proliferation of drugs, drug related crimes, peer to peer/cyber bullying and violence. We achieve our goals by collaborating with educators, community leaders, families and L.E.A.D. support organizations.

  • LoveIsRespect.org Break the Cycle and the National Dating Abuse Helpline are collaborating to bring you loveisrespect.org, the ultimate resource to engage, educate and empower youth and young adults to prevent and end abusive relationships.

Internet Safety

  • SafeKids.com is one of the oldest and most enduring sites for Internet safety. Its creator, Larry Magid, is the author of the original 1994 brochure, “Child Safety on the Information Highway” and is also a technology journalist.
  • GetNetWise is a public service brought to you by Internet industry corporations and public interest organizations to help ensure that Internet users have safe, constructive, educational, and entertaining online experiences.
  • NetSmartz Workshop is an interactive, educational safety resource from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children® (NCMEC) and Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA).

Tobacco

  • NoTobacco.org offers educational videos, K-12 assembly programs, speakers, quit smoking info, anti-tobacco news, and a great anti-smoking links guide for teen smoking prevention. The mission of our sister group, Smokefree America, is to motivate youth to stay tobacco-free and to empower smokers to quit successfully.
