Wellness Campaign
The Wellness Campaign is a state-wide childhood obesity initiative started back in 2006. After receiving startling news from a Rutgers University study regarding the rise of childhood obesity levels, the NJ State League of Municipalities urged New Jersey Mayors to participate. Each Mayor was asked to pledge participation by developing their own, customized program that would be most suitable for their community.
Grant funding received from the Community Benefits Committee of Mountainside Hospital gave a "kick start" to the program.
With the support of the Nutley Board of Education, the initiative continues today with the following annual programs;
- Mayor's Fitness Challenge
- Walk to School Wednesdays
- Dance for Health
- Mid-Year Mileage Contest
