Code Enforcement Department
The Code Enforcement Department issues all zoning certificates for Township of Nutley.
Conduct planning and zoning review for all alterations, additions and new construction throughout the township. Also review for all new businesses to confirm they are permitted in the area of town.
Schedule and go out on all building, electrical, plumbing and fire inspections, before, during and after construction.
Perform inspections for all transfers of real estate, new tenants, and new businesses.
Issue permits for garage sales, carnivals and festivals, and Christmas tree sales.
Check compliance with Township Codes, including property maintenance and zoning, and send out and follow up on violations. Also check compliance with all state building codes, and if necessary send out violations, stop construction orders and unsafe structure notices.
Respond to emergency scenes, on a 24 hour basis, at the request of the police or fire departments to determine if a structure is safe or not.
