Commissioner Thomas J. Evans

Commissioner Evans.jpg Thomas J. Evans is currently serving his fifth term on the Township of Nutley Board of Commissioners.  Elected in November 2003, he is the Director of Revenue and Finance.

Commissioner Thomas J. Evans is a life-long resident of Nutley.  He graduated from Nutley High School in 1973, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Fairleigh Dickenson University in 1977. Tom became a certified Public Accountant in 1982.

A full-time commissioner, Tom recently retired as the Chief Learning Officer and a partner at Pricewaterhouse Coopers LLP. Tom brings nearly 38 years of public accounting and corporate leadership experience to his role at Revenue and Finance for Township. Tom’s success in business and as a Commissioner has always been grounded in his core values- Integrity, Teamwork, Mutual Respect, and Personal Accountability.

Over the past 13 years as Commissioner of Revenue and Finance, Tom has helped Nutley:

  • Implemented a sound financial planning process to manage cost and capital needs.
  • Proposed and executed a plan that has returned Nutley Rescue squad to financial stability so that they can continue their life long and proud history of service to our community.
  • Led efforts to forge a productive relationship with our largest taxpayer, Hoffman La Roche, and instituted actions that have enabled our Township to remain a viable location for their business.
  • Advocate for smart development that most recently contributed to the renaissance that has begun on East Centre Street.

Tom is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the New Jersey State Society of CPA’s and the American Society for Training and Development. He is a member of Nutley UNICO, on the Board for the American Red Cross and previously served as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Nutley Free Public Library.

Tom remains dedicated to the welfare of Nutley, the town that he and his family will always carry in their hearts. His wife, the late Yolanda Perrotta Evans, was an attorney and proudly served as counsel to Nutley’s Zoning Board of Adjustment. When he is not acting in his professional roles, Tom spends time with his growing family. Tom’s daughter, Mary Kate, is an attorney for the State of New Jersey and lives with her husband, Jared, the Director of Administration for the Dept. of Homeland Security. His son, Tommy, a Managing Consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers, is married to Christina, a Teacher. His son, Andrew, attends The College of William and Mary.
