Code of Conduct
Sports violence can be defined as behavior which causes harm, occurs outside of the rules and regulations of any given activity and is unrelated to the competitive objectives of the sport. Spectator violence is usually caused by excitement or frustration and can lead to violent actions. Coaches must lead youngsters by example at all times. The Recreation Department has devised a system consisting of a document that will be titled the Code of Conduct. All parents will be required by the Department of Parks and Recreation to review and sign this document. As parents, our job is to put youth sports in perspective and present ourselves as positive role models for our children.
Fingerprinting
Countless people touch our children*s lives on a daily basis and as organizers of youth activities it is our obligation to take the necessary steps to insure your child*s safety. We have instituted a Fingerprinting Program, which mandates that all coaches, and volunteers in any organized sport or recreation program be fingerprinted and placed on file with the state and federal Government as stated in Nutley Ordinance #2835 titled *Criminal History Background Checks of Employees and Volunteers of Non-Profit Youth Servicing Organizations and/or Employees and Volunteers Involved With Township Sponsored Programs Involving Minors. It is through funding from the Megan Kanka Foundation that we are able to provide these services. The foundation contributes half of our cost and allows us to make this a cost-effective program for our community.
Date of Fingerprinting Session: Dates to be announced.
Rutgers Safety Clinic
With the wide range of sports activities offered by the Nutley Department of Parks and Recreation, it is essential that our volunteers be supplied with the information that will allow them to evaluate and determine solutions for specific situations. The Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic (Sports Awareness for Educating Today's Youth) is a three-hour orientation program that meets the "Minimum Standards for Volunteer Coaches Safety Orientation and Training Skills Programs* and provides partial civil immunity protection to volunteer coaches under the "Little League Law" . This program will assist coaches and volunteers in building the knowledge and proficiency needed to manage each individual sport and deal with various scenarios. In order to prevent serious injuries we need to educate residents to the best of our ability. Advanced registration is required for this clinic. This is a mandatory requirement for all volunteers in Nutley
Date of Safety Clinic: Dates to be announced.
