Under the direction of Mayor Joanne Cocchiola, a support group for caregivers and family members of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease has been formed, and meets on the third Wednesday of every month at the Public Affairs Building on 149 Chestnut Street in Nutley at 7:00 pm. The group is affiliated with the Alzheimer’s Association Greater New Jersey, and the program and meetings are free of charge.
The Alzheimer’s Association is the world leader in Alzheimer research and
support. The Association is committed to providing support assistance and information
to individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and their families or care partners. It is estimated that there are currently more than 350,000 individuals and their care partners in New Jersey who are struggling to cope with the challenge of Alzheimer’s disease. Local programs and services for these individuals include: education and training, support groups, respite assistance and a 24 hour, toll- free telephone Help Line.
Mayor Cocchiola encourages local residents who have aging family members
at all stages of the disease to participate. “I am pleased to offer this new program to the
residents. Through our experience at the Department of Public Affairs, we see a growing
need for assistance to families who are dealing with caring for a loved one with
Alzheimer’s.”
