Grass Clippings

Leaving grass clippings on the lawn is recommended. If you choose to remove your clippings from the lawn, place them in bags with your regular garbage pickup.

Leaves

As of 2005, all leaves are to be placed in brown, bio-degradable bags and placed at the curb from October 15 thru December 15 and will be picked up by the Department of Works; any other time, the leaves will be picked up on your garbage day. No GRASS CLIPPINGS or large twigs to be placed in bags. The Department of Works will distribute some bio-degradable bags to the residents as available.

LOOSE LEAVES ARE NOT PERMITTED TO BE PLACED IN THE STREET AS PER THE STATE LAW.

Littering

Town Ordinance:
NO PERSON shall throw or deposit or permit any servant, agent or employee to throw or deposit LITTER in or upon any street, sidewlk or other public place within the town except in public receptacles or in authorized private receptacles for collection: provided, however that said public receptacles shall not be used by persons working or occupying property in the vicintity of said public receptacles for the deposit of domestic, commercial, or industrial litter.

Town Ordinance:
NO PERSON shall throw or deposit or permit any servant, agent or employee to SWEEP into or DEPOSIT in any gutter, catch basin street or other public place within the town the accumulations of LITTER from any building or lot or from any public or private sidewalk or driveway. Persons owning or occupying property shall keep the sidewalks abutting upon such property free from LITTER.

Snow & Ice
When a major snow storm occurs the main streets are plowed first for emergency vehicle access, then all other streets.

Our fleet of plows and salters allows us to clear many streets at the same time. It is our desire to clear all streets quickly efficiently and with the least inconvience to our residents.

TOWN ORDINANCE:
THE OWNER OR TENNANT OF ANY LANDS ABUTTING UPON PUBLIC HIGHWAYS OF THE TOWN OF NUTLEY SHALL REMOVE ALL SNOW AND ICE FROM THE ABUTTING SIDEWALKS OF SUCH HIGHWAYS WITHIN THIRTY-SIX (36) HOURS AFTER THE SAME SHALL FALL OR BE FORMED THEREON. THE OWNER OF ANY GARDEN APARTMENT AND THE OWNER OF ANY HIGH-RISE APARTMENT OR OTHER MULTIPLE DWELLING CONSISTING OF THREE (3) OR MORE APARTMENTS IN THE TOWN OF NUTLEY SHALL REMOVE ALL SNOW AND ICE FROM THE SIDEWALKS, ROADWAYS (DEDICATED AND ACCEPTED PUBLIC ROADWAYS OF THE TOWN EXCEPTED), PARKING AREAS WALKS FROM THE SIDEWALKS TO THE STAIRWAYS TO THE BASEMENTS, STORAGE AREAS AND REFUSE STORAGE AREAS OF SUCH GARDEN APARTMENTS AND HIGH-RISE APARTMENT COMPLEXES AND OTHER MULTIPLE DWELLING AS HEREIN DEFINED WITHIN THIRTY-SIX (36) HOURS AFTER SAID SNOW AND ICE SHALL FALL OR BE FORMED THEREON. NO OWNER OR TENNANT OF ANY LANDS ABUTTING UPON THE PUBLIC HIGHWAYS OF THE TOWN OF NUTLEY, NOR ANY PERSON, SHALL REMOVE THE SNOW AND ICE FROM SAID ABUTTING LANDS OR ANY PART OF SAID LANDS AND PLACE OR DEPOSIT THE SAME IN OR ON SAID PUBLIC HIGHWAYS.
